3D Character Artist

Remote Work 3D Character Artist

We’re looking for a 3D Character Artist who can bring our 2D concepts to life in‑game

Description

We’re looking for a 3D Character Artist who can bring our 2D concepts to life in‑game: humans, Baji, robots, zombies and spider‑/insect‑like creatures.

Responsibilities

  • Create high‑poly and low‑poly 3D character models (humans, Baji, zombies, creatures, robots) based on 2D concept art and references.
  • Model clothing and gear for multiple cultures: varied outfits, armor sets, accessories and headgear.
  • Build hostile robot characters combining organic and hard‑surface elements with clear silhouettes and readable designs.
  • Create spider‑/insect‑like monster characters with believable anatomy, variations and mutation stages.
  • Design and model hostile and peaceful zombie variants: infection stages, body deformation, clear visual roles in gameplay.
  • Help define the visual look of the Baji civilization: anatomy, posture, clothing, gear and tech aesthetics.
  • Prepare assets for production: retopology, UV unwrapping, baking maps (normal, AO, etc.), setting up PBR‑ready assets.
  • Create and polish textures and materials for real‑time rendering in Unreal Engine 5 (skin, cloth, metal, organic surfaces).
  • Collaborate with rigging and animation teams to ensure models deform well and support required ranges of motion.
  • Follow the project’s art direction and pipelines, participate in reviews and iterate quickly based on feedback.

Expectations

  • Examples of work with: humans / humanoids, creatures / monsters, preferably sci‑fi or dark fantasy themes, or post-apocalyptic survival.
  • Solid understanding of human and creature anatomy, proportions and deformation for animation.
  • Experience with retopology, UVs and preparing game‑ready assets for real‑time engines are a plus.
  • Knowledge of PBR workflows, texture sets, and optimization (polycount, texture budgets, LODs).
  • Ability to work from concept art while also contributing ideas and design variations.
  • Comfortable collaborating with concept artists, tech artists, animators and game designers.
  • Experience on RPG or survival titles, or other large‑scale game projects are a plus.
  • Strong creature/monster work, mixing organic and hard‑surface elements are a plus.
  • Experience optimizing characters for Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5 skeletons, LODs, master materials) are a plus.
  • Basic rigging/skin knowledge to better understand technical constraints are a plus.
